A Scandinavian Christmas Table: Simple, Warm and Cosy

A Scandinavian Christmas Table: Simple, Warm and Cosy
Published 18/10/2026

A Scandinavian home at Christmas does not shout with glitter. It invites you to stay a little longer. Warm candlelight, natural materials, a few green accents and tableware you want to hold. Setting a Christmas table like this is easier than it sounds: a few thoughtful choices and the courage to leave some empty space are enough.

Start with the base: natural tones and textures

A Scandinavian table starts with fabric. Instead of a bright tablecloth, choose linen or jute, which creates a cosy feel on its own. The Janavi table runner in jute with subtle metallic threads adds depth, while the yellow Janavi runner brings extra warmth. At 550 cm long, it works even for a large festive dinner.

For cheese, bread or snacks, the tree-shaped Diya marble board looks like a small sculpture on the table and stays useful in the kitchen long after the holidays.

Tableware that sets the mood

In Scandinavian style, tableware does not need to stand out. It should feel good in the hand, with a touch of imperfection that reminds of handcraft. The Snowie series is exactly that: soft beige stoneware with scattered snowflakes. Pair the plates with Snowie bowls and mugs for mulled wine or the morning coffee after Christmas.

If you prefer clean shapes, look at the Winter serving plate with an embossed winter leaf pattern. For contrast and warmth, add Acco bowls with a reactive glaze: each one varies in shade, which makes the table feel natural and alive.

A little colour and playfulness

Scandinavian does not mean dull. Soft rose blends beautifully with natural tones. The Wonderland serving plate with deer, Wonderland plates and the milk jug and sugar bowl create a fairytale mood for dessert.

If children join the table, classic nutcrackers bring a smile. The Jolly plate set and matching Jolly napkins add nostalgia without overdoing it.

Candlelight, the heart of hygge

Light is the most important element of a Scandinavian table. Instead of one big lamp above the table, use several candles at different heights. Place the low snowflake-shaped Dania votives between the plates, and let the taller mouthblown Branton candle holders create rhythm in the centre.

Short on time? The Sanga tray with votives already includes a vase with a spruce branch, so just place it and light the candles. For a warmer glow, choose the Kahlah candle holder in recycled brown glass and surround the candle with pinecones or fir.

Greenery instead of heavy decoration

At Christmas, Scandinavians bring nature indoors. A few spruce branches in a vase or simply laid on the runner look more elegant than lots of small decorations. The Pine stem with cones looks natural, never sheds and will last for years.

The amaryllis is a holiday classic. A white Amaryllis keeps the calm Nordic palette, while a red one becomes a bold accent. For a large table or hallway, try the Kristin bouquet with white blooms and green branches.

Details your guests will notice

It is the details people remember. Misa glasses with tiny Christmas figures at the bottom, Misa cocktail forks and cheese utensils with mouthblown glass handles start conversations. For desserts, use the Yule etagere or the turntable so every guest can reach the cookies.

In short: 5 tips for a Scandinavian table

  • Choose 2 or 3 colours and stick to them, for example beige, white and green.
  • Mix textures: jute, stoneware, glass and wood.
  • Play with heights: low votives, taller candles, branches in a vase.
  • Leave empty space so the table stays comfortable for eating and talking.
  • Light the candles early, before guests arrive, so your home greets them warmly.
